Wet n Wild Monday

Okay, maybe not wild...but it was certainly wet on the way in. The rain was really coming down at one point and I was having a hard time seeing through all the rain on my glasses! Got to work safely and without incident.

Riding home I had the wind in my face and so heading home was a little harder than heading in had been. I got home just fine and without any rain so I was happy for that. By the time I left work this evening at approximately 5:15 p.m. it was 60 Degrees out. Coming home the river was really up and in a couple places it could be over the top by tomorrow when I ride in...we are supposed to get more thunderstorms tonight. The ground was saturated and in some spots on the bike path there was standing water. I didn't see any other cyclists today but I did go by and say hello to 7 joggers.

I received a confirmation email today to let me know that Nashbar shipped my panniers and jersey. Hurray!

Refrigerator Update:

Landlord called today, repair guy came over, told them it wasn't worth fixing, so Wednesday morning a new bigger and nicer fridge will be delivered. I'm excited, apparently it even has the water and ice thing on the door...score! That will make my mom SUPER happy!
*************************************************************************************
Tomorrow is April fool's day - I had intended to freeze milk in the kids cereal bowls and then pour a little cereal on top with some fresh milk on top...but considering that I have no working freezer I guess I won't be doing that. Now I have to think of some other thing to do to them....I'll work on it.
*************************************************************************************
Okay, I think that's my update for now...I'm tired...it was really good to be back on the bike after being off it all of last week. Hopefully I can ride on Saturday with the club. Yes, I spend my week planning my weekend :o)

Safe and Happy Riding!

Surprise when I opened my Fridge

Yesterday I went to the store pretty early, picked up some groceries (stuff for Taco's)...came home did my stuff for the day. In the evening after the taco's were made I opened my freezer only to realize that everything in there was thawed out...what the heck?

Call the landlord, he comes over, looks at it, says he will call someone Monday morning. Fabulous! This means that today I have to leave work at some point to get my butt here for someone to mess with the fridge....yes I could probably let them just come in with the landlord but I have huge issues with someone being in my house if I'm not here.

So....I then get two laundry baskets and toss all my food in those that I haven't already tossed in the cooler. My mom, who was over at the time of the discovery, goes to the gas station and grabs some bags of ice for me...then we haul the food out to her car (the stuff in the laundry baskets) so that she can throw it in her fridge till mine is fixed. So right now I'm living out of a cooler LOL!
*************************************************************************************

Thunderstorms today but I'm riding anyway. I haven't seen any lightening just heard some thunder.
I'm used to riding in the rain and other not so agreeable weather! Our area is under a flood warning so here's hoping that the roads are okay to travel on.
It's really coming down right now! Holy moly - it's POURING!!!! TORRENTIAL DOWNFALL!
***********************************************************************************
Still bike related information: I got online yesterday afternoon and picked up some panniers for the commuter as well as a long sleeve jersey. I got them for cheap so that made me super happy.

**********************************************************************************
Okay, that's all for now- I've got to head downstairs to throw socks in the dryer .

Be safe! Happy riding!

Sometimes uneventful feels good!

Today was a uneventful day. I went into work at 5 a.m. That was fun! I had Bob drop me off. I left work at 2 p.m. walked across the grassy knoll to the doctor's office for him to check my wound...I'm on antibiotics for another 3 weeks! Better safe and clear than sorry and dead!
After that I walked to JC Penney's to get my eyebrows waxed by mom. The weather was so nice it was in the mid 40's so the walk was great and I will admit that I read my book while I walked. It's a pretty straight shot and seldom used because it's right on the main highway...plus it's a fairly new sidewalk put in when they built the new hospital which opened in October.

Then I walked to Walmart, picked up my prescription and then jumped on the Huskie Bus which dropped me off 3 blocks from my house.

I'm waiting for hubby to get home from work - I think they were doing inventory or some such thing so I'm waiting ---but if he takes much longer getting here I'm going to go ahead and eat dinner without him.

My brother has the 3 boys and Cassy is staying with a friend. I wish he would get home so that we could maybe go do something tonight but he will probably just go to bed when he gets home. lol.

Reading a new book, picked it up at Borders while walking over to Walmart.

Okay, that's my boring day. I wish I'd ridden my bike because it turned out to be a lot warmer than expected.

Be safe!

Brookfield Zoo

The kids hanging out in the pouch

It's 10:22 p.m. and we are home from the zoo (actually have been home since 5:30 p.m. but you know how it goes). The zoo was a blast. The kids were so excited to ride the train to our destination...I didn't get a whole lot of pictures because I hadn't realized that my memory card was so full...but I'm sure we'll be going more often now that I've done it and am no longer afraid!

The kids were funny, although the 3 do tend to argue quite a bit while together for extended periods of time.

On the ride into the zoo we sat on the first level of the train but they asked if on the way back we could ride on the upper level and we did...I have to say - I liked the upper level better myself. I was really impressed with how many bikes I saw parked at the different metra stations along the way!

Anyway, the zoo is much prettier in the summer when the grass is green and it's warmer and less windy out. We were happy to have partly sunny skies throughout the day and 50 degree weather - even if the wind was blowing at 20 mph !

It was a fun day - we spent about 5 hours in the zoo! The ride home was enjoyable.

During the ride home I was so intrigued listening to the boys talking about the different animals and what they thought of them and just basically dissecting every part of the day. I sat watching their mannerisms and being completely fascinated..and couldn't help but to think of what a miracle my children are while I sat and pondered what kind of men they might become.

Cassy wasn't able to go with us because she had a softball game that got rescheduled the day before to today. Total Bummer that I had to miss the game, but I couldn't go back on a promise to the others. I am happy to report that my daughter hit a single, got a runner home, was able to steal 2nd base and then was later batted in and able to score a run. I'm very proud of her and she said the girls were giving her a hard time ...as in "And you said you've never played softball before." She's pretty proud of herself and I think she should be! By the way - her team won :)

The kids in front of the south gate entrance

Sebaceous Cyst UGH!

After last Sunday's ride I noticed that I had a small raw spot from where something I was wearing was apparently rubbing when I was riding - I took my shower got dressed and didn't give it another thought...until I got up several mornings later and realized that it was slightly red and sensitive to the touch...I began putting salve on it and covered it...it just got worse...Finally I broke down Friday night and went to the ER because I had not been able to sleep Thursday night and by Friday when I got off work I was so uncomfortable I had just about had it.

They told me I had an infected sebaceous cyst....YUCK! The nice Doc tried to numb me up...which worked to an extent before he sliced and diced into my side (the little bit of tissue below your arm pit to the side of your boob)....Okay you probably didn't need all that information but I'm sharing it anyway...aren't you happy you are reading this lol....He says he's going to culture it but is going to start me on an antibiotic for MRSA ( http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mrsa/DS00735) because I work in a nursing home...

Last night I talk to the lab at the hospital, MRSA positive....Fabulous! Guess it's a good thing that doc was smart enough to put me on it - apparently my thoughts that I work in the office and don't do direct care were a bit off base...So, I am on the antibiotics, also have vicodin for the pain because there is a lot of pain (he dug around in there so much! the wound is pretty big and I'm pretty sure I lost a decent amount of underlying muscle from the cyst and from his digging around in there).

So, today I have the day off from work - not because of the MRSA but because I am taking the kids to the zoo. The wound is covered and I know what precautions to take regarding it (i.e. no sharing the luffa with anyone).

Will post pics from the trip later.

Be safe out there!

Zen

Well I just finished reading my book about Fatima. Very interesting - a different perspective than I had figured as a lot of the information came from relatives of the visionaries.

I think I'm going to pull out my old favorite 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'

Anyway, now I can't get the italics to stop so guess what? You get to read the rest of my post in italics :)

Yesterday was a stressful day at work - but I really kept my head down and just did my stuff and tried to not get involved in everyone else's crap!

I've got my picks done for the contest at work for March Madness! I love basketball and I did consult my little brother, Danny, for help in my picks...

I've got 174 miles in this year - so I am ahead of where I was last year at this time this includes 16 commutes to/from work. We are supposed to get snow tomorrow (Blah) so we'll see if I commute or not.

The kids start spring break as of this afternoon when they get out of school. Tuesday I'm taking a vacation day to go to Chicago with the boys. We are going to take the train in and then go to the zoo (keeping my fingers crossed for nice weather)!

Okay, so about the 'ZEN' I am really going to work harder on not letting things irritate me to the degree that I have let them in the past. I'm trying not to let others dictate my mood! I'm also going to devote more time to prayer and to relearning the Portuguese language. If you want to know why I no longer know it feel free to ask and I'll explain.

Bom Dia e seja seguro! (good day and be safe)

An Interesting Phone Call

Tonight at about 7 p.m. I got a phone call from our Administrator at work. He wanted to know how the kids were - apparently they are very concerned that I'm missing work....he told me that if they are still sick tomorrow I can bring them in for a half day or whatever just to help me from falling too far behind in my work.....

Okay - now some thoughts that I'm trying to work out.

1. When I asked this in the past about my 15 yr. old coming in following a pretty serious allergic reaction to something - there was a concern about her being there - so why would I want to bring in 7 year old twin boys? WHo are running 102 degree fevers?

2. Why is it that when I am gone from work no one can 'help' me out and do any of my stuff? They certainly expect me to get their work done when they aren't there - okay this doesn't apply to the administrator - but it does apply to other people who when I'm gone never make an effort to ease my return to work!

3. When I have to take days off because of my kids illnesses I either
A) take vacation time
B) work long days to make them up or
C) Bust my ass - make up the work even if I don't get my hours in.

4. There is a sign on the front doors requesting that if a person is showing any signs of the flu to please not be in the building ... these include a fever, vomiting, diarrhea...yet I can bring two little boys who are running high fevers, and nauseous into the building?

5. I commute on my bike every day - perhaps I should attach pegs to my bike on both the front and the back so they can ride with me!!!! (Yeah I'm being as sarcastic as possible)

6. My office is the size of a bathroom - literally it used to be a bathroom that was then converted into an office - there isn't any extra room - both of my boys could not be in that room! I am certainly not leaving my sick kids with other people in the building to watch --- I hear how they all act about that crap and I've had that job dumped on me before - watching the kid that has to come to work with their parent .... the person who has to watch them gets none of their work done and gets screwed!

Yes I am irritated! I hate when they try to heavy hand me into being at work...if those boys are still running over 101 degree temps I am not taking them into the building and asking them to sit even for 1 hour! I work my butt off for them...and I have a feeling that a certain someone is playing martyr again...while not doing any of my work but acting as if me not being there puts an enormous burden on their shoulders. I honestly am so irritated tonight. I should go to bed as my husband has to be at work at 4 a.m.but instead I'm sitting up a little aggravated. The same person that I'm sure is whining is the same person who was gone for 3 weeks in one month and I had to do their job and mine...return the favor people! I rub your back you rub mine!

Next time people are gone I may be too damn busy to do their work/job...I'm going to stop being such a nice helpful person at work and start acting like everyone else...put out by everyone and everything! Keep my head turned from everyone and just do my job and leave! Screw everything else! I hate having the screws put to me when I don't deserve that at all! I especially hate people acting as if my children should not be my first priority - part of what is wrong with this society!

I'm certain that he was trying to be a nice guy - he just doesn't know the way things go on in the building because he hasn't been there long enough to see the dynamics. Yes, I am stubborn and don't like to be told what or how to do things - sorry it's from being a manager for 10 years!

Okay sorry to vent but I am a bit emotional at the moment. I'm worried about my kids, I've been cooped up in a house with for several days and am still feeling the effects of not having felt well last week - so this on top of everything else is just more than I want to deal with at the moment.

Take care! Ride safe! One world two wheels!

Retraction

Well, here I was getting my gear on and packing my bag when one little boys came down the stairs with his head in his hands saying he wasn't feeling any better. I feel his head, temp is up...I take his temp..102! UGH!!!!! If I send him to school they will send him right home!

There's nothing to do but stay home with him again. Cody also is complaining and can barely keep his eyes open...so I have 2 home today. I am going to have the smallest check in the history of my time at Bethany! UGH! It's a bit frustrating but there really is nothing to do - I have little kids who are sick..I have to be with them. I can't send them anywhere because everyone who could take them has their own little kids and no one wants sick kids around their healthy kids!

No wingra today :(

Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to work I go

Thankfully all the little sickies are looking better this morning. Cody is no longer running a fever. Brendon is running about a 1 degree temp...which could be because of all the fleece the child has on himself. Gaven is back up and just fine.

So, thankfully I'll be hopping on the Black Stallion...(yeah I named the Wingra) and pedaling to work! It is raining out at the moment, but it's only 6 a.m. I'm hoping that by the time I head out the door it has stopped or at least lightened to a minimal kind of drizzle/mist.

I should work a 12 hour day but that won't be happening as Karen and I have to go to the bike shop and discuss the ride schedule with Tobie. Karen and I are leading a Saturday ride out of DeKalb and meeting our club in Kirkland for breakfast - this will give the riders in DeKalb a chance to mingle and realize that having a club is a huge social thing. We are also leading a ride on Wednesday nights. This one will be nice as well. Wednesday night rides from the bike shop have been for the guys who ride FAST! We will lead a ride that takes the same route but that we can lead at a slower pace which might bring some of those that aren't comfortable trying to ride with all the guys in matching spandex.

I'm really sore and don't know if it is to blamed on the biking or on throwing the softball around with Sassy - Sunday's ride with the club was 25 miles of holy cow I'm not used to this riding! Have I ever mentioned that the two things I dislike when biking are 1. WIND and 2. HILLS? Really going to work on that this season. I bought a new computer so I can watch my cadence and see if that helps me become a stronger rider. Dropping 50 lbs would probably make those hills easier to climb as well. I'm working on that too ;)

Okay, that's it for now. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the pictures from my phone to my computer - I seem to have missed something when reading the how to book.

Have a great day and be safe out there!

A Bunch of Sickies

Went to get the boys up this morning and everyone is sick! Poor babies! Running fevers, rosy red cheeks...I feel so bad. I poured them all some 7-up and set them up on the couch with each other.

That's about it for my post this morning, I may think of something later...

Interesting link...

Trek has some women who wrote an essay and are spokeswomen for the company. I follow one of the women's blogs more than the others - she seems to have my twisted sense of humor.

Anyway she posted a link to a short video, I thought I also would post it on my blog as it's a message to get out to people.

http://www.dothetest.co.uk/

The club took their first ride of the season yesterday. 24.86 miles. Nice ride, a bit windy but who's complaining. As soon as I figure out how to move the pictures from my cell phone to my computer I will post them.

Safe and Happy Riding!

Mom turns 60....

Technically my mother turned 60 today. We had her birthday party last night. It was a huge surprise and she had given up hope that we were doing anything for her, which means we were quite good at convincing her that we didn't give a damn that she was turning the big 60 this year.

We had a blast, there were people from our home town there...which was amazing! Her friends came, clients came, her co- workers, some of our friends who she has become like another mother to.

It was a great evening and she had a blast. She called me already this morning to tell me thank you. Cassy and my little sister Missy Birthday Banner
Mom's whole family - dang there are a lot of us!

There are a lot more pics but I don't want to post pictures on the internet of people who don't necessarily want to be on there so if anyone sees this and wants to see the other pics or was there and wants some please let me know.

Anyway, it was a good time and I'm glad it's over lol!
I've got to go throw the softball around with Cassy and then Karen is picking me up at noon to head up to the first bike ride of the season for our club.

Safe and Happy riding!

Traffic Court Blues

Well today I have the day off - only because I have to go make an appearance in traffic court. I'm making a list now...reasons to get out of the car and ride your bike.

1. Muffler system replacement $500.00 Bike $0.00 Bike 1 point
2. Flat tires $100.00 Bike $20.00 (if you have to buy tube and tire) Bike 1 point
3. Traffic Tickets $200.00...I've never heard of anyone getting a traffic ticket on a bike so Bike $0.00 Bike 1 point

So far the bike is winning!

Pleasantness of this = If court gets out quickly or they call my name and let me leave quickly I can go to the bike shop, get that front hub fixed and then leave and ride the rest of the day away. I had considered cleaning the house but what a waste that would be - everyone's going to just mess it up again - and it's relatively cleaned it just needs to be picked up....they will all live..I'm riding instead (keeping fingers crossed that I'm out of court in less than an hour and that I can stay on track with my day!)

Spring sing is tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Okay I'm taking off! Safe and Happy riding folks!

Spring Sports Booster Night

Last night was the spring sports booster night. Basically all the parents meet their children after practice at the high school, go into the main commons, sit around and eat, then head into the gym where the athletic director introduces each sport and their coach (freshman, jv, varsity). The coaches then give a little introduction regarding their sport (badminton's coach was amusing as he worked very hard at convincing the doubters that badminton is really a tough sport). The coaches then introduce their players and then it repeats with the next coach and team. I had taken a picture with my cell phone of Cassy's softball team....however, I manged to close my phone without saving the picture (kicks self in butt). I was sitting with Sandy (former co-leader of our girl scout troop with me), and of course we were busy talking....and laughing...

The head coach for the varsity softball team gave a talk to us about proper parent conduct....this reminded me of my stepfather being kicked out of a basketball game one year. Apparently last year one of the varsity players parents was kicked out of a game for getting into a fight. I was told that his wife works for the school district - how embarrassing! I guess some parents get carried away and that just takes all the fun out of it for everyone - including their children!

I will post softball pictures when they come in- should be a week or so.

The weather hasn't been as warm yet this week as promised. It didn't even hit 33 degrees yesterday even though the weatherman said it would hit 41 by the time I headed home from work. So, as I jumped on my bike yesterday morning I decided to leave behind the winter jacket that has kept me so nice and warm during my commutes this winter and instead layered some shirts and a big heavy sweatshirt on top. I figured being a little chilly on the way in would be fine - instead I was a little chilly both on the way to work and on the way home. I'm over 100 miles now this year - so only a couple thousand to go! lol

All right, better go. Mommy morning time is almost over and I still want to do my daily Bible reading before waking all the little ones up and starting the chaos of the morning off!

Be safe out there!

Busy Week Ahead

Good morning! It's 30 degrees F. We are supposed to get up to almost 40 degrees F. I'm stoked!

Still commuting this week - who can stay off the bike when it's going to be warm?

Tonight is booster night for the parents of the spring sports season.

Thursday I have court for a traffic ticket .... another reason to stay out of the truck! UGH!

Thursday my sister also comes in to town from North Carolina...she called me complaining about how cold it is here LOL!

Thursday is also the Spring Sing for the 3 boys.

Friday is the last day to get everything before mom's birthday party. It's also the day that my best friend and her family get here. Everyone is staying with me including my sister - it's going to be an insane weekend.

Saturday is mom's party - she needs to cooperate for the surprise - I think Brenda V. and I have this worked out...but mom is the kind of person who will just decide she doesn't like an idea and won't cooperate! Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well!

Sunday is the first ride for the bike club HURRAY! The thing that will help work all the stress off....oh so that adds to my list for this week...because I need to get Tobie to look at my front tire/rim which seems really loose.

Okay, safe and happy riding! Have a super day!

Daylight Savings Time, Full week of Commuting, and Mom's Party

Good morning! It's 5:11 a.m. on Sunday morning. The time has sprung forward, I woke up an hour and a half ago for no apparent reason but felt wide awake so gave up on sleep a while ago and came out to the computer. Daylight savings time means spring is so close we can almost taste it. The forecast says that the temps should be in the upper 40's for the whole week! That means super riding weather!

I also accomplished a full week of commuting, which I am proud of because temps were actually pretty low. I don't work this coming Thursday but will ride the other days that I work. Plus the first group ride with the bike club is on March 16th. I can hardly wait to see everyone! It's been since December that I saw people from the club so I'm excited.

Mom's birthday party is less than a week away. I talked to my sister yesterday and to our accomplice who will be bringing mom to the party. Everything is set with only some odds and ends to pick up. I'm really looking forward to this!

Okay, better go, I'm going to start laundry and eat something - I feel like I haven't eaten in 12 hours ...wait it has been 12 hours! :o)~

Have a great day everyone and be safe out there!

Sights during the commute & Mom's Party

I've commuted by bike every day this week. My legs were a little tired coming home yesterday but I think that was also because I was bonking. I'd eaten 6 hours before and had only drank water since then...probably just needed a little energy for the limbs! Will be sure to eat that apple sitting on my desk today before jumping on my bike to head home!

On the way into work I saw the LBS Manager driving into work. He recognized me and honked...does this make me a regular? I think he really just recognized the bike! Coming home I saw 9...count them 9 DEER on the side of the bike path that runs through Greenwood Acres. I wish I'd have had a camera. I need to start carrying one. They were literally just standing to the left of me. I also saw 1 squirrel but he wasn't nearly as impressive as the deer. I have to look into a camera to keep on me...not sure if I want to chance it with my digital though. Perhaps buying a cheaper digital would be a good idea.

Mom's party is just 1 week and 1 day away. I'm excited and nervous. My sister flies into O'Hare on the 13th. Thankfully I found someone to pick her up since my boys have their Spring Sing at the Huskie Den that night. The food is ordered, the cake has to be ordered but they said I can do it just one or two days ahead of time. I still need to pick up drinks and stuff like that.

Okay, gonna run - today is jean day and I need to figure out what to wear with my jeans that's appropriate for work...

Have a great day everyone. Ride and Drive Safe!!!

Spillage

Yesterday my wingra and I took a ride into work. It was raining...not just sprinkling I mean POURING RAIN...but it was fun! Those water proof pants I picked up at the Bike Swap Meet in Madison in January really are water proof!

The ride home was nicer...it was clear and a little cooler. However, the wingra and I took a spill on some water covered ice. Not too much worse for wear...my wrist is sore from taking the brunt of the fall but other than that we were able to arrive home safely.

Attached are pics of my wingra...sorry it took me forever to get them uploaded because my computer was not cooperating - or perhaps because the user (me) screwed up.
The wingra now has a rack on the back as well ...like I said it took me a while to get the pics uploaded onto the computer and I've added the rack on since commuting with a backpack over a winter jacket is a little uncomfortable .
Keep the rubber side down! (As NCC says).

DH's Migraines

Are getting to the point that they are interfering with everyday life. In the past month he has missed work 4 times because of migraines. Don't get me wrong they are horrible, throwing up anytime he moves, light piercing his eyes making him throw up as well...however, in all the years that we've been together I don't think he's missed 4 days of work before because of being ill.

Aside from that his disposition has gone down the drain. I suppose if I had piercing migraines perhaps I'd be a big bear as well...but I don't.

This morning I mentioned that he might need to put gas in my truck (F.Y.I. I didn't drive it at all since last Tuesday). He went off the handle - yelling at me that I was going to make him late for work because I didn't bother to put gas in it - pretty sure that was never my job if I'm not the one driving the damn thing! Then he started saying Cassy isn't going to drive if she's not responsible enough to pay attention...um...she has her permit...she shouldn't have to worry about the gas situation and the only time she drove this weekend he was with her!

I know that he isn't feeling well but purposely taking that out on me is unacceptable! Also, if your migraines are this bad make an appointment and see a doctor! He won't do this though because he's a stubborn ass (I mean that in the nicest way possible)! I'm so angry with him right now I just want to yell!!!

I hope this isn't an indication of how my week is going to go!
Okay, well that's that. I am going to go jump on the treadmill and run a couple miles to burn off some of my own frustration.

Have a great day my friends and be kind to those you love!

Good Morning

Today is going to be a busy day. I've already taken Cassy to the high school for band ensemble. That will be an all day thing. My little Sassy Cassy below. Hair color at the moment is dyed Red - because she wants to look more like her mama!

Not sure if I've mentioned in the past their phenomenal band instructor - Mr. Ruben Cooper Jr. A picture below of him in his more famous days of playing with K.C. and the Sunshine Band....He's fabulous and really inspires my daughter. He's also well known for COOPISMS - his little sayings that all the kids come home and tell us about.
I also need to go get groceries, pick up and vacuum in the house and then at some point make it down to the Local Bike Shop to get the rack put on the wingra because I am apparently very incapable of figuring that little bit of stuff out! Oh, yes, and there is youth baseball sign up at the Rec. Center for the 3 amigo's today as well!
Have a super day everyone! Stay busy and safe!
